Communist Party of Greece (KKE) General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas on Sunday addressed an event held in the Athens district of Peristeri to mark 104 years of the KKE, saying that the party's history showed that "when the people responded to KKE's call and decided to walk with it...they achieved great things".

"We call on the people to do the same today, to walk with KKE in the struggles, the movement, in all the battles and become the protagonists of developments," he added.

Referring to the strike on November 9, he said that thousands of striking workers in all sectors sent a "clear message to the ND government and big employers against energy poverty and high prices, shouting that they are not prepared to freeze in the winter and starve so that the few can get rich..."

Earlier, Koutsoumbas attended the unveiling of a honorary plaque placed in the grounds of the AEK football stadium for resistance fighter and AEK footballer Spiros Kontoulis.
