Androulakis: PM was to go to the upcoming elections with voters left in total darkness

Opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis, in a statement on Wednesday, accused the prime minister and the government of "ruthlessly abusing the institutions" for the sake of a cover-up and of preventing an honest judge, Christos Rammos, who heads an independent authority established to create checks and balances within Greece's democracy, to do his job and continue his investigation.

This was happening because the prime minister "wants the upcoming elections to be held with the Greek people left in total darkness regarding the real findings of this sordid case," Androulakis added, referring to the revelations of phone tapping involving Greek state services.

He also underlined that "from the beginning, this story with the phone tappings was not a personal matter but a matter of democracy, an issue of institutions, of the rule of law, of the separation of powers and it primarily concerns the struggle of many generations of Greek people to bring the Democracy to the country".

"We will not allow, as a democratic party, this downward slide imposed by Kyriakos Mistotakis to continue in the country, which exposes it internationally," concluded Androulakis.
