Tsipras outlines SYRIZA-PA plan to ensure transparency, safety in building infrastructure

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras on Thursday presented three key actions included in his party's programme for ensuring transparency in the procedure of implementing public works projects and for monitoring and knowing whether public infrastructure is safe. Tsipras made the presentation at a conference organised by his party on "Safe transporation, modern infrastructure" at the Hellenic Cosmos centre.

"Justice everywhere means safety everywhere, above all it means respect for life itself," Tsipras said, noting that corruption "thrives" in darkness and always at the expense of safety. "We are determined to put a final end to this party, which not only jeopardises public finances but also human life," he added.

Tsipras said that the central focus of SYRIZA's proposal is a new "Diavgeia" for public works projects and infrastructure. This envisages a central digital licensing system, a central digital system for monitoring technical projects and, thirdly, a system for registering, operating and the maintenance of both public and private infrastructure that has been fully delivered.

"It is an urgent need to restore a sense of safety and justice everywhere," he said, noting that the proposal presented by SYRIZA-PA on Thursday introduces a mindset of transparency in the operation of state administration and crucial infrastructure.

He also accused the government of "arrogantly continuing to ignore its responsibility" in the wake of the tragic rail disaster at Tempi.

The event on transport safety policy was organised by the party's transport and infrastructure sector.
