Football player released on bail after testimony over rape charge

A foreign football (soccer) player on a Greek team was released on bail on Thursday after testifying on charges of rape.

The goalkeeper was arrested this week on charges of raping a female college student from Belgium in a bar of Kolonaki, Athens. He denied all charges, saying the two just danced together, and underlined that medical tests compared to his DNA samples would vindicate him.

Also testifying, on his behalf, were the team's physical therapist and a fellow team player.

The goalkeeper was released on a 20,000-euro bail after his testimony.
