Opposition PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis, while touring the peninsula of Chalkidiki on Friday, said it was "inconceivable" that one of Greece's busiest and most popular tourist destinations had only five permanent ambulances at its disposal.

During a visit to the Health Centre in Nea Kallikratia, he underlined the need to redirect European funds from the Resilience and Recovery Facility to reinforce the country's National Health System.

"I consider it inconceivable that one of the most popular tourist prefectures of mainland Greece, spanning huge distances in kilometres, should have only five permanent ambulances," he said.

Androulakis talked with the doctors and the nursing staff at the Health Centre and was briefed on its capabilities. Later, he visited the Health Centre in Kassandria and the local ambulance service.

"We will be at your side, we are the party that first had the vision of a National Health System," Androulakis underlined.
