Doctors and nurses at state hospitals have decided to participate in a 24-hour strike on Thursday, called by the civil servants' union federation ADEDY.

The national union federation of hospital doctors, OENGE, demanded that the government's proposed new labour law be withdrawn, calling it an "anti-labour monstrosity that abolishes the five-day week and eight-hour day, legislating to grant employers the right to squeeze employees as much as they want, when and whenever they want."

The national federation of state hospital employees, POEDHN, also demanded that the bill be withdraw, noting that it criminalises trade union action, and deplored the use of agency workers "who cost a great deal more than permanent staff or even contract workers".
