Androulakis:The government allowed powerful economic interests to profiteer at the Greek's expense
The ongoing hike in prices dominated a meeting between opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis with representatives of consumers organisations on Monday.
"There is galloping inflation and high prices that eat away at incomes. Unfortunately, the government has for many many months performed hardly any inspections of the market and only imposed a very small number of fines. Whatever has been done simply proves the general rule," Androulakis said at the meeting.
PASOK-KINAL leader pointed to the proposal for lowering VAT on essential goods while at the same time conducting effective inspections of the market, "so that there is a safety net protecting the most vulnerable and the middle class."
"The government's priorities allowed very strong economic interests to profiteer via the inflation of excessive profits at the expense of Greek people," Androulakis concluded.
