Skertsos: We will not tolerate any incidents of profiteering at the expense of households
"We have intervened in the market, but high prices continue to be a major problem. So far 8 million euros in fines have been imposed and quite a few have been collected. We monitor the price levels of similar products and the state will intervene where there is a problem," he asserted.
He also pointed out that "based on Eurostat indicators, Greece has one of the three lowest inflation rates in Europe. Our interventions reduce upward trends faster, but the general trend is visible over time. Greece is one of the five EU countries with the fastest reduction in inflation. Prices are rising at a slower rate than in other countries. Thanks to our economic policy, the economy is showing increased growth and investment indicators."
Skertsos also noted that "we had increases in pensions for the first time. We are not saying that high prices are an easily solved problem. We will continue on this path."
Referring to the tax bill for freelancers he said: "We are not targeting any professional group, we do not a priori consider them tax evaders. The state lays down the rules and the citizens adapt. If the state has left loopholes that some can exploit, it is its job to close them."
