Skrekas:The Greek family's income has started to increase
"We have lower or the same prices compared with last year for a Christmas dinner," Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Wednesday in an interview with the public broadcaster ERT.
The minister noted that the government is striving to ensure that dinner tables at Christmas are full and has therefore added the necessary food products to the 'Christmas basket'. "Already the first supermarket chains have started to send us the prices of the goods for the Christmas basket".
Regarding inflation, Skrekas pointed out that "the inflation in food productes in November dropped by 10 points, namely from 9.9 percent in October to 8.9 percent in November.
Skrekas also said that the "the Greek family's income has started to increase and this is a huge change in comparison with the last 10-15 years, when the household incomes were dropping drastically, not only because wages were decreasing but also because people lost their jobs. In the last four years we have created 400,000 jobs and this has increased the income of Greek families because more family members are in work.
Regarding the 'Santa's Basket' that will be available from December 15, Skrekas said it includes "toys in all the categories we can find in a toy store."
