"An amendment to the draft law of the Labour and Social Security Ministry was submitted to the Parliament, which concerns the regulation of matters under the competence of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. This regulation settles issues related to foreigners who live and work in Greece for a long time and enhances public security," government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Monday during a press briefing.

He clarified: "This does not entail the legalization of undocumented migrants. After all, Greece has been implementing a strict but fair migration policy for four years, having reduced flows and speeding up the process of granting or denying asylum to applicants."

Marinakis referred to the 2024 State Budget that passed in the parliament on Sunday evening, including the increase in the salaries of public sector employees for the first time after 14 years.

He also underlined that spending on the health sector will increase by 2 million euros from 4 billion euros in 2019 to 6 billion euros in 2024 as well as spending on education which will rise to 6.5 billion euros from 5.5 billion euros.
