ErgOSE completes installation of European train safety system at Greek RR sections

ErgOSE, a subsidiary of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), said on Tuesday it had completed Contract 10005 that relates to installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) at specific sections of the national railway line.

Specifically, ErgOSE said it had installed the ETCS at the following sections: SKA-Tithorea, Domokos-Thessaloniki-Promahonas, and Inoi-Chalkida. It added however that the ETCS system could work only after the remote traffic control and signalling systems of the Athens-Thessaloniki-Promahonas railway section (under so-called Contract 717) are operable.

In a statement, the company said that "for the first time in Greece, the ETCS on-board system provides Greece with an updated system to protect trains that will increase traffic safety based on European safety standards. Several rail sections have already received the Railway Regulatory Authority's (RRA) required approval to set them in operation. In fact, the sections already approved for operation include the Domokos-Larissa section that was destroyed by the 'Daniel' weather phenomenon. It is expected that the RRA will approve for operation the remainder of the sections."
