PM Tsipras on Women's Day
On March 8, we celebrate the struggles of women for gender equality, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Thursday while speaking at a joint meeting of the Permanent Special Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights and the Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice, in the Senate Hall.
This day must remind us of what has been achieved on a social and economic level by women's struggles, he said and noted the need, among other things, to broaden and guarantee gender equality.
He referred to the wage inequalities, sexual harassment and physical violence, even within their families, that women face.
The prime minister outlined women's fight for enfranchisement and the right to vote, noting that their struggle had a long history in Greece.
