Tzanakopoulos: Dilemma of general elections is who will rule and with which programme
"The dilemma of the national election is who will rule the country and with which programme" State Minister and government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said late Thursday, speaking to TV Open.
"We must talk about the future, to compare policies and to unveil our political perspective," he said, adding that "we seek to reverse the result of the European elections and we believe that a reversal is possible."
Referring to the issue that has arisen concerning the appointment of judges to replace those that are due to retire, Tzanakopoulos said that the government has the right to exercise its duties until the end of its term. He also said that the government has invited main opposition New Democracy (ND) to participate in the selection of the chief justices through consensus but ND refused because it wants to annul the pre-selection procedure and start from scratch, appointing the persons that ND considers the best.
Referring to the reasons for SYRIZA's defeat in the European elections, he said that "we did not succeed in improving the living standards of the middle class and to meet the expectations that a section of the middle class had of the government".
Ahead of the national elections, Tzanakopoulos said that SYRIZA is fighting for more jobs, better salaries and targeted intervention for the relief of the middle class, not horizontal interventions on taxation.
