Police raid two buildings in Athens occupied by migrants and refugees
Police raided two buildings in central Athens, one of them occupied by migrants and refugees since 2016.
According to sources, over 130 foreign nationals, among them a large number of children, were registered after the first building was evacuated on Acharnon str.
The operation started early Thursday with the assistance of police officers from several departments while a search for drugs is also underway, although sources told Athens-Macedonian Agency no drugs have been found yet.
After being identified and registered, the foreign nationals living in the building will be transferred to organised hosting centres for migrants and refugees.
Following the first raid, the police raided a second, five-storey building near to the first one on Acharnon also occupied by foreign nationals. Over 50 individuals, including many children, will be transferred to hosting facilities.
After the evacution of the buildings, Athens municipality staff will clean and secure the two buildings.
