Greece supports EU Commission initiatives for energy, Skrekas says

"Greece supports the initiatives assumed by the European Commission and considers them an important step in the right direction for dealing with the major energy crisis," Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Wednesday, in response to the statements made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Strasbourg.

"Today's proposals by the European Commission...move within the framework that the Greek government has for some time planned and implemented in the crucial energy sector. The mechanism for recovering excess revenues proposed by the Commission president is already being implemented in Greece, as our country acted without delay and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has referred at every opportunity to the need to establish a more representative indicator for the natural gas market, the need to protect terms of competition and the swift change of the energy mix with emphasis on renewables. All the above are now becoming official EU policy," he said, saying that this was an important day for the EU.
