Athens-Thessaloniki railway connection is being restored
The railway connection on the central Athens-Thessaloniki route, which had been interrupted due to the disasters caused by the storms "Daniel" and "Elias", is being restored, after the arrival, at dawn, of the first commercial train at the Thriasio Freight Centre.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, only freight trains will run on the railway line until December 16, in order to decongest freight centers as quickly as possible, and from December 16, passenger trains will also be launched, in order to fully restore the railway service.
Within the first months of 2024, the final restoration work will also begin on both the main axis and the two other railway sections, Larissa-Volos and Paleofarsalos-Kalambaka, as well as the Pelion tourist line.
