Samaras: Economic recovery especially in tourism
Greece economic recovery begins, especially in tourism, PM Samaras says in Rhodes.
Greece is now on a course of economic recovery, especially in tourism where it is expected to excel, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said while visiting the island of Rhodes on Friday. The prime minister met representatives of local authorities, productive classes and the tourism sector at the Southern Aegean Regional Authority's offices.
The premier had earlier met the regional governor George Hatzimarkos, Rhodes Mayor Fotis Hatzidiakos, the head of the Hoteliers' Union Antonis Kambourakis and New Democracy's candidates in the upcoming elections on January 25. The meeting focused on a number of issues and problems facing Greek islands.
"We discussed in depth the problems of the islands and especially those relating to tourism," Samaras told representatives of island associations, while emphasising the importance of tourism and its special momentum for the recovery of Greece's economy.
"Tourism will sweep all before it but the problem is which channel will you guide it into," the prime minister said, noting that the prerequisites for visitors were security, stability, credibility and the quality of the tourism product on offer, among others.
"We solve problems without pompous words and in collaboration with [sector] agencies," he added.
Later on Friday at 17:30, Samaras is scheduled to make an address at a hotel on Rhodes, in the context of ND's pre-election campaign.
