Marinakis: We do not back down regarding our sovereign rights

It is important that disagreements should not produce crises and that the various parts of the dialogue with Turkiye "should lead us with steady steps forward," government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said in an interview with public broadcaster ERT on Tuesday, regarding the imminent visit by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Athens and the Greek government's expectations.

"The country's defence policy, all the issues that constitute 'red lines' are not negotiable, they are not in the discussion," Marinakis said, and explained:

"We have one sole difference. The delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone and of the continental shelf. However, there are a series of serious matters which it is important to discuss. Dialogue, in general, is very important and both countries have a duty to protect it. There are disagreements and there will continue to be disagreements over very important issues. It is very important, however, that these disagreements should not to produce crises and that every individual part of the dialogue, such as that on December 7, should lead us with steady steps forward. I repeat, however, that we do not back down regarding our sovereign rights".
