Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, in an announcement following the resignation on Wednesday of ruling New Democracy MP for Fthiotida Themis Himaras, again accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of "not daring" to dismiss the MP himself and keeping silent.

"He once again confirms that he is an accomplice in the 'blue' party with public funds at a time when the overwhelming majority cannot make it through half the month," the main opposition added.

"For days, Mr. Mitsotakis covered for Mr. Himaras' law-breaking and looting and clearly accepted his lies and his ridiculous explanations. Finally, Mr. Himaras resigned as an MP himself today to 'facilitate' ND," the announcement noted, adding that "in truth, Mr. Mitsotakis did not dare to expel Mr. Himaras and continues to keep in the ND of scandals and corruption one more 'Patsis', who after making an illegal nest-egg of hundreds of thousands of euros with public funds is exiting 'heroically'...".

According to SYRIZA, the least that Himaras should now do was to return the funds he had earned from public coffers.

Himaras resigned following press reports that his businesses had financial dealings with the public-sector at a time when he was serving as an MP.
