Government spokesperson Yiannis Economou, in the press briefing on Tuesday, said that the government's legislative work will continue right up to the first few days of Holy Week, after which parliament will be dissolved within the time frame allowed by the Constitution ahead of the general elections. These are to take place on May 21, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced earlier in a Cabinet meeting.

Economou said that "the prime minister is a fervent believer in institutionality, a basic element of which is the completion of the government's term in order for political, social and economic life to not be subordinated to petty political games.

"Stability, consistency and respect for the institutions are key demands of Greek society and are also the ways to achieve renewal, modernisation and progress in our country," he added.

After over 10 years of turbulence and major problems, he said, Greece needs an 'improved' normality. "The citizens, in the upcoming elections, are called upon to decide which Greece they want in the future and which government is the right one for realising their hopes," he said.

Economou said that the sincere and unbiased citizens are awareof all the things the government has done to improve their lives and to make the country stronger. "All the things we have done cannot be cancelled out in one fell swoop by those we had not had the time to do and those we did not do as well as we had wanted," Economou said.

"The wise and prudent citizens know that we have a plan and strong political will, as well as the knowhow and professionalism needed so that over the next four years we can move more quickly and decisively to reinvigorate old infrastructure, increase salaries for all, upgrade the National Health System and deal with the remaining 'nuclei' of the deep state," Economou said, underlining that "the aim is for the good to become better and to minimise problems and weaknesses.
