Three of Athens' historic cinemas will operate free of charge this coming Sunday to raise awareness about their potential closing if the buildings' owner decides to repurpose their properties, as is alleged by the movie theaters' owners.
The buildings which house the cinemas are owned by Greece's unified social security fund (EFKA), which recently filed an objection against the exclusive use of the buildings as cinemas, to the Environment Ministry.
On Sunday, films will also be screened outside of the cinemas in nearby spots Korai Square and at Akadimias 55, with outdoor projection screens and live events also held the same day.
