Attica taxi drivers' union calls work stoppage from 14:00-20:00 on Monday
Attica will be left without taxis from 14:00 until 20:00 on Monday due to a work stoppage by the Attica Taxi Drivers' Union (SATA), which has called an emergency general assembly of its members at the Peroke Theatre at 15:00.
In an announcement, SATA denounced the "government's indifference, the propaganda of excellent relations indulged in by the opposition and the federation's silence," noting that the general assembly will decide whether the demands of the union leadership coincide with those of Athens taxi drivers.
Among other demands, the union wants an increase in fares, including for trips between the Athens airport and the city centre by 5.00 euros, a return of Christmas bonus fares, permission to use bus lanes when carrying passengers, and the introduction of a 5.00 euro fee per extra passenger, after the fifth passenger.
