FM Dendias comments on upcoming elections in Türkiye
The Turkish president is feeling the pressure generated by public opinion polls in his country, noted Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias in his interview to 'Parapolitika 90.1FM' radio station on Wednesday.
Commenting on the elections in Türkiye due to be held this coming Sunday, the minister underlined that "the Greek government will try to 'connect' with any government chosen by the Turkish people."
It is certain, he added, that these elections are rather hard for Turkish President Erdogan and his party AKP, and "despite all that he has said about Greece during times of tension between the two countries, he has a specific influence on Turkish society." Therefore, he stressed, "I would not predict the worst [electoral performance] for AKP."
Greece believes in democracy, human rights and the rule of law, Dendias added, therefore "we would like to see that all the countries with which we collaborate -on our own or within the context of the European Union- to be on the same level with us, or as close to that as is feasible."
