SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras on Friday accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of being the "high priest of surveillance", speaking at an elections campaign gathering in Alexandroupolis. Tsipras addressed "the democratic instinct of the citizens" urging them not to give to New Democracy a blank check in the elections of May 21 for a second consecutive four-year term.
"With the surveillance scandal the prime minister of the country has become the high priest of surveillance. To hear, while in his office, the half of the political system, the chiefs of the Armed Forces and not have the courage, the ethics, as it happens to every other European country, not only to say "excuse me" but to say "I resign", Tsipras underlined.
Referring to the fence in Evros, Tsipras said he will demolish it and sharply attacked the government on the issue of German reparations saying that: "Today, government spokesman Akis Skertsos said that an adamant national claim, the claim of the German reparation from the Nazi's occupation and of the occupation loan is not a claim of our country anymore".
Tsipras said that spring is coming for the country's political life and for our lives. "On May 21 we will celebrate it" he said referring to the elections.
