Mitsotakis: I believe that in the last four years the farmers have felt the state's active interest
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis chaired a meeting at the Maximos Mansion on Wednesday regarding the compensation and emergency support for livestock and crop farmers in the country.
According to sources, the support that will be given to farmers from Thursday, April 12 until May 10, 2023 amounts to 155 million euros while a second package of of compensation requests for 30 million euros has been sent for approval to the EU, based on the temporary framework of state subsidies due to the Russian invasion to Ukraine. So, the total amount of the programmed payments is 185.8 million euros.
"I believe that in the last four years the farmers and livestock breeders have felt the state's active interest and despite the huge difficulties we faced, the farming world witnessed many initiatives for improving the production and distribution of products. In addition, significant reforms were launched for the modernisation of the primary sector. There is more to be done and we must cover the gap that separates us on this front from Europe. From now on the weight should be put on better organisation, extroversion and cooperatives and on incentives - of which there are already many - for young people to return to farming.... We can achieve all this with cooperation, planning and hard work, as our slogan says: Moving steadily and boldly forward," Mitsotakis said.
