Child recovered dead after boat with refugees and migrants capsized off Mytilene

The inflatable dinghy carrying 48 people was spotted by a Greek coast guard patrol boat on the sea border with Turkey, while a Turkish coast guard patrol boat was also sailing nearby.

According to a Greek coast guard announcement, the occupants of the dinghy caused it to capsize once they entered Greek territorial waters and a Greek coast guard vessel approached them, so that there would be a rescue operation to collect those fallen in the water.

Of the 48, 46 were collected unharmed and two children had to be taken to the Lesvos hospital, one of which was not responding and could not be resuscitated. The other child was admitted to the hospital and is out of danger.
