Syriza urges gov't to suspend home foreclosures & auctions until national elections

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance urged the Greek government to issue a legislative act for the suspension of home foreclosures and auctions until the upcoming national elections, in an announcement on Saturday.

The main opposition party added that no home auctions were carried out during its tenure in government, and that this protective legislation was lifted for the first time by the current New Democracy government.

Moreover, Syriza noted, during its governance debt collections agencies were required to settle primary residence debts in agreed installments. New Democracy, it was added, made use of a 2003 law to allow private funds companies to foreclose and auction homes, ignoring Syriza's 2015 legislation.
