Androulakis: Lack of staff in ambulance service and NHS have tragic results for the Greek people
PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis spoke of "tragic results for the Greek people" due to a lack of staff in the ambulance service (EKAB) and the National Health System in general, during his visit on Wednesday to the ambulance service headquarters. He accused the government of not putting the billions of euros of the Recovery Fund to proper use in order to create a modern National Health System.
The chief of EKAB Nikos Papaefstathiou and representatives of the employees informed Androulakis on the current conditions on the Cyclades islands, saying that apart from Rhodes, the provision of a 24-hour ambulance service is very difficult to cover. They brought as examples the islands of Mykonos and Paros, with three and seven workers, respectively.
It was also underlined that, due to the low wages and the lack of incentives, there is no interest in the vacant jobs for auxiliary staff. Especially for the region of Attica, there is a need for 20 additional ambulances for every shift and 10 ambulances for the night, while a total of 700 ambulance staff must be hired in order to cover the increased needs.
