The goal of New Democracy is to get an absolute majority in parliament in the second round of the general elections, Prime Minister and President of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed on Monday at the joint meeting of the Executive Secretariat and the Inter-Secretariat of the ruling New Democracy party.

The prime minister pointed out that the result of the first elections, to be held in either April or May, will determine what follows, and stressed that New Democracy wants a result that leaves no room for doubt about its ability to win in the second round of elections.

"We have no doubt that the result of the first round of elections is the one that will ultimately decide the developments," he said, adding and that ND wants a result "that is so strong that our ability to achieve an absolute majority in the second ballot is not doubted in any way. This is the goal."

Mitsotakis expressed optimism about the election result but noted that there can be no complacency, while he conveyed the climate he encountered on his recent tours: "I am very optimistic about the elections. I see the figures, but mostly I see the people. The climate is very good. We had the opportunity two days ago to be in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace; the climate is really very good and it is very good because the government's work is definitely a guarantee of consistency, continuity, stability and also reliability. In comparison with 2019, now we are being told: 'come and continue your work, because we trust you'. We must know that by speaking the language of truth to the citizens, we build even greater credibility," Mitsotakis said.
